What I've been eating

This last week was pretty busy because I started my new job! Yay! Besides that I'm been following my goal of eating at home and have been busy planning, cooking and eating!

Here is what I've eaten:

Grilled Mahi-Mahi with wasabi mashed potatoes with caramelized sweet onions and peas.

Spicy black beans with salad (I posted about that already!.

Hamburgers, Sweet Potatoes, and a vegetable.

Cheese Tortellini with broccoli, tomatoes, and garlic.

Mushroom, spinach, and Cheddar wrap with oven fries.

Garlic crusted pork loin with mashed acorn squash.

We did eat out once after my eyebrow wax in Wicker Park at Earwax Cafe.
Its a very hip cafe with mismatch furniture and graffiti type art. I got the tuna melt an fries which were very spicy and J got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich with fries Very good and yummy!

Dinner Tonight: Spicy Black Bean Cakes

After shopping for 3 hours at many different stores to complete the grocery list I wanted to make something easy. I'm also trying to include more beans in my diet and one of my favorite magazines "Everyday Food by Martha Stewart" had this recipe.

Its so easy and super good. Its a spicy dish and I'm not really a spicy food person- this recipe calls for a jalepeno chili but i just put a tiny bit in and it was just enough spice. The black bean cakes are served with lime sour cream which takes some of the edge off of it.

I didn't take a picture but check it out here.

Home for the Holidays

J and I came home a little early because of the huge storms that were hitting. We didn't want to get stuck in Chicago b/c of the snow.

I haven't really been doing anything that interesting. I've been trying some new recipes out, some were a hit and I think most were a miss.

I've also gearing up for the Golden Globes and trying to see all the movies that got nods..which is a hard task but a fun one too. As long as I get to see the movies that have been nominated for Best Picture I'll be okay.

I'm also working on updating my Ipod. I'm borrowing some CDs and trying to get a lot of music on it.

Other than that nothing new is happening. I'm trying to figure out where we should go on New Year's (we'll be in Chicago!)...

First Winter Storm

I survived my first winter storm but I realized that I need to stock up on a few things to stay a little warmer.

We decided to go out to lunch and see a movie but didn't realize how COLD it was outside.

There was wind, cold, slush, rain, ice and maybe a few other things that were unidentifiable. There was some bus delays which meant that we had to stand outside but we made it home to our nice warm apartment.

I have made a vow that I'm not leaving the house again until spring. (hehehe)

Haircut and Literacy

I needed a haircut because I haven't got my haircut since I've been back from Europe and I've always heard good things about the Aveda Institute in Cincinnati so I decided to try the Chicago location out. Its pretty cool because students cut your hair (of course their instructors check up on them).
I didn't get anything too crazy done, I just basically just got my ends and layers cleaned up but the best part was the my stylist, Alyson, was very Cincinnati (Anderson- to be exact) and she was real cool. She graduated from DAAP and decided that she wanted to do more hair and makeup kinda stuff at fashion shoots so started the program at Aveda. She gave me a lot of advice on hair and products-so it was real fun.

Today, J and I went to the volunteer dinner at Open Books. Its a real cool place that promotes literacy throughout Chicago. I signed up for a couple of events and J signed up for one, but it was still a lot of fun to get out of the house and do something different.

Now I'm watching MTV, Pageant Place, and Miss USA is wearing the same earrings that I have. pretty cool
